Emergency First Aid at Work

Duration of Course: One day

The course is designed for any member of an organisation who is likely to find themselves taking charge of a first aid emergency or assisting a qualified First Aider.

Aims of the course:

  • To train the delegate to understand emergency first aid.
  • To build the delegate’s confidence in the ability to perform emergency first aid.
  • To assist the delegate to reach an acceptable standard to allow the instructor to issue an Appointed Person Certificate of Attendance.

Content:

This course covers the basic essentials in emergency care:

  • The ability to act safely and competently in an emergency.
  • Treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  • Recognition of cardiac arrest and the delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Treatment for a choking casualty.
  • Treatment for a bleeding casualty (use of bandages and slings).
  • Recognition and treatment of casualty suffering from shock.
  • Simple record keeping following an accident at work.

The course utilises the following training methods:

  • Multimedia presentations to convey information.
  • Hands on practice in small groups.
  • Positive coaching from approved Instructor.
  • Opportunity for self appraisal and completion of class evaluation.

Certification:

The course is certificated and is currently valid for three years.
